Don't let anybody tell you you're too old to drive!

Obtaining your license to drive in California is actually a simple process

1. Go to the DMV and get a free California Drivers Handbook.

2. Read and study the Handbook thoroughly.

3. Take a multiple-choice  test on the contents of the Handbook at the DMV. When you pass the test you will be given a Learners Permit.

4. Learn to drive using the one of these three option:

A. Either a friend or relative: You may use a California licensed adult driver, age 25 or above.

B. California licensed driving instructor: You may use a driving instructor licensed by the State of California.

C. A combination (recommended); You may use an instructor for training and a friend or relative for practicing what you learned during your lesson.

5. When you feel comfortable enough that you've learned the skills necessary, you take a behind the wheel test at the DMV. When you pass the test, you will be fully licensed California driver!!

Why pay a driving instructor when a relative or friend can teach me?

Relatives and friends can and should play an important role in your learning to drive. However, in most cases they passed their own tests years ago and have not kept up with the latest road rules that you will have to demonstrate when  to  take your driving test.

Our instructors, in order for us to maintain our own School License , must maintain their own  proficiency by keeping abreast of all the changes in traffic laws and road rules in California. For instance . . . did you know that there is a very specific way to turn right across a bicycle lane? If you don't perform that method perfectly on you drive test you will be automatically failed. Most of your friends and relatives probably obtained their license before lthis road rulle was put into effect. Ask them.

We recommend that you take periodic lessons with us and then practice your driving with a friend relative between lessons. You can bring your helper up to date on the latest laws and rules and they can help you practice driving. It's a win-win situation. Think piano lessons. You take a lesson from the teacher and then you go home and practice and repeat until you learn.
